WindEnergy Hamburg 2024
At WindEnergy Hamburg, our colleague Michael Gerken presented FAIRPLAID, a partner for increasing citizen participation and acceptance of wind energy projects. After all, the success of the energy transition depends largely on the further expansion of wind energy. However, the expansion will only succeed if all stakeholders - from industry to the local population - pull together.
How do we increase the acceptance of wind energy projects among the (regional) population - and maximize their impact at the same time?
Many discussions at the trade fair showed that citizen participation is no longer a "nice-to-have", but an indispensable part of any successful project development. By involving citizens in project planning and development at an early stage, we create transparency and trust. We implement citizen participation in a sustainable and structured way throughout the entire value chain - from the planning phase to operation.
A match of financial participation and charitable support
Through a match of financial participation opportunities and support for local charitable projects, people benefit and participate directly and in the long term. The result: greater acceptance, shorter approval procedures and stronger identification of local citizens with wind power. This not only takes local concerns into account, but also creates economic incentives. For the wind energy sector, this means more stable projects, faster implementation and long-term social support - crucial for achieving the ambitious goals of the energy transition.
For us, the trade fair was a totally exciting visit with interesting insights and approaches. We were able to understand different perspectives and think ahead in numerous discussions. We can now continue to work on a solution that is beneficial for everyone involved in order to further strengthen participation and acceptance of wind energy in Germany.
We are looking forward to further exchanges and to continuing along this path together and actively involving even more people in shaping our energy future. Let's talk about it!
